Architect Discusses using SOUNDSCAPES

Benedict Dubbs, AIA, LEED-AP, from Murray Associates Architects, P.C. stopped by see what Armstrong was highlighting at NeoCon and mentioned he liked the direction we were heading in with the SOUNDSCAPES Shapes product line.

FLORSTAR Visit

Not only did we see a lot of Designers and Architects at NeoCon, but we had some of our partners visit us at the booth. Here, Bonnie Jacobs, Contract Territory Manager for FLORSTAR Sales, Inc. tells us why she likes working with Armstrong.

Metal that looks like Hardwood

Hanging over the Commercial Hardwood Flooring portion of the Armstrong booth is an installation of our EFFECTS Wood Looks panels and trim. The metal panels have perforations that absorb 60% of sound transmissions and most Designers visiting the booth cound not tell they were not wood.

A Design Challenge

Designers looking to bring some better acoustical performance to open plenum areas can literally bring the beauty and drama of clouds indoors with Formation Accent and Acoustical Clouds. Gregg reviews the installation we showed at NeoCon.

Sustainable Design

Amy Costello, Armstrong Environmental Scientist and Marsha Bischel, PhD, Armstrong Senior Research Scientist attended a lot of seminars with a focus on Sustainable Environmental issues and building materials. They reported that the sessions have been well attended with standing room only audiences.

Some of the key themes have been educating Designers on the issues and criteria they should be considering when specifying environmentally friendly products.

Major takeaways have been:
* Focusing not just on the efficiency of the building for LEED but the health benefits, the comfort and the productivity of the occupants.
* The responsibility to let building owners know that occupants should not enter a building soon after products have been installed and the interior space has been finished. This issue could be avoided by selecting environmentally friendly products.
* Time should be given to flush or ventilate the space.
* Furniture should be assembled outside the building to minimize the off-gasing.
* Having day lighting is not sufficient, Designers should be able to harvest light through reflective surfaces such as high LR ceilings and floors, and by having automated sensors and glare control.
* Single attribute labeling should be understood before specifying a product. Designers should understand what properties are being certified.

Clean Design with Great Acoustics

We noticed a lot of Designers looking up as soon as they entered the booth to check out the new SOUNDSCAPES Shapes that will be coming out in the Fall. We are only showing 7 of the 10 standard shapes but they have create a buzz already. Gregg walks us through the product line.

INFUSIONS in New Colors

Most everyone who sees them raves about the fantastic colors of these INFUSION accents. Gregg Maberry gave us an overview.

Durable Commercial Hardwood

Dancers in the Armstrong booth proved once again that Armstrong Commercial Hardwood can stand up to harsh punishment.

Getting Ready for Day Two

For all of you who survived Day One of the crowds and those long lines for elevators, we salute you for coming back for Day Two. We've already had a lot of Designers and Architects come by today. The hot item seems to be the new colors for the INFUSIONS line and questions about our SOUNDSCAPES SHAPES. The Commercial Flooring area is generating a buzz on the new NATURECote coming out in July.

Gregg Maberry conducts a tour of the Armstrong booth to review the highlights of the new products on Day 2 of NeoCon

Keynote from London

Word is the speech by celebrated London architect Zaha Hadid had to be delivered from her home country yesterday. It still had some inspirational messages even though technical problems kept it shorter than anticipated. We'll have a report later on some of the key points.

Wows for WOODWORKS

The Woodworks Ekos Wall System got a lot of attention at the show today. Armstrong is showing one panel that has microperforations to assist in reducing sound and reverb within a room. Many were surpirsed to hear the wall systems are made from a natural wood veneer and a mineral fiber substrate. Others liked that it helped towards LEED credits since it has no-added formaldehde and no-detectible emissions.

"Fantabulous"

Armstrong presented be the GROOVE productions and they really made a great impression on the 8th floor of the Mart this morning, leading a crowd over to the the booth to experience their talents first hand. They will be back on Tuesday at 10, 12, 2 and 4 if you missed them. But make sure you don't miss out in seeing all of the Armstrong Floor and Ceiling products showcased at this year's show.

Hot New Designer

Madonna, Cher, Prince, so many celebrities go by one name. We had a rising new star in the industry show up at our booth this morning. Sebastain liked how the light shined through the translucent colors in the Armstrong INFUSIONS accent canopies and liked the color options for our Commercial Hardwood .

Have you met Red?

Standing 2 inches tall and weighing not quite 2 oz, this flavorfull dancer showed up with some of his friends to check out the Armstrong booth. Now we can't get him out of the booth.

Come by and see if you can spot Red and his friends and help us make room for architects and designers.
